HomeownerProject brief
I knew when I bought my flat that there were some problems to address, but I just had such a good feeling about it when I walked in. Unfortunately there turned out to be a lot more to fix than the survey suggested. I moved in the winter so the first thing to look at was the heating, which didn’t work at all. A friend recommended some builders who’d been really good for him, but they weren’t on the ball for my project, so it was lucky I hadn’t commissioned them for any of the bigger jobs.
I got in touch with The Page to look at my bathrooms, which were very unloved. One had a leaking bath and was very tired, so I wanted to get that completely redone – retile, change the loo and add a shower. The other was very damp and the tiles were falling off the wall, so that needed renovating too. I wasn’t planning on doing anything else at that point, but my Pager spotted that the garden was much higher than it should be, which meant that water wasn’t draining properly, making the ground floor a bit damp. He levelled out the surface (uncovering loads of waste and plastic that had been buried) and added Yorkstone, so now it looks really nice.
“My previous builders took a really long time to get some small things done, and then the communication got worse and they just stopped turning up. So I was a bit worried about going into the bigger projects, but with my Pager, Ritvan, it was a lot smoother. Him and his team have done a great job and they work really really hard. I was trying to keep costs down and only do the very necessary work, but I completely trusted Ritvan when he spotted other issues in the flat that needed to be fixed, like the garden. The Page have done a fantastic job recommending them and the check-ins with Thomas were great to have.”
Product review
I used Bathrooms at Source for the bathroom fittings and fixtures and Tiles at Source for the tiles. I love the tiles, they’re great. They have some really nice products and I’m happy with the loo, bath and sink. The only slight niggle is the shower glass, which is warping a bit as the size isn’t quite right. In hindsight I should have got custom-made shower glass installed to match the size of the shower tray like Ritvan suggested.
